During the summer season, which is roughly from the end of May to early September, the Scouts spend Friday evenings at Budworth Sailing Club which is at the east end of Budworth Mere.
The activities are dinghy sailing and kayaking so some activity kit is needed: base layer is swimming costume, then tee-shirts and shorts or perhaps tracksuit bottoms if it’s cooler and perhaps a light sweater. If the Scouts have waterproof tops and trousers, they should bring them to keep them warm when they get wet. We have a number of these items which they may use. Footwear is trainers that will get wet when launching boats. We will issue them with correctly sized, regulation buoyancy aids.
Many of the Scouts are fortunate enough to have wet suits and boots but they still need waterproofs to keep out the cold.
Showers are available at the end of the evening so towels and a change of clothes are needed.
The Scouts may bring a drink (warm or cold) and a little snack bar for afterwards if they wish.
At the beginning of the season, parents are required to fill in a permission form to give us information about things like swimming ability, medication etc.
The Scouts need to be at the venue, changed and ready to start at 6:30pm so that the leaders can organise the groups. Pick up time is 9:00pm. The lane to the mere is only a single track so could we ask for parents’ patience and not attempt to exit until all Scouts have been dropped off.
